Heartfelt Tidbits is a grassroots organization that helps the refugee community organize around and overcome the many issues they face. The Welcome Project is an non-profit created as a collaboration between Wave Pool Gallery, a local gallery in the Camp Washington neighborhood of Cincinnati, OH. and Heartfelt Tidbits. It is a social enterprise that trains our newest neighbors in fabrication and art skills as well as store management while bringing new life to the business district of Camp Washington, Cincinnati, OH. The Welcome Project temporarily closed its creative space in order to renovate and add a bathroom. The organization saw this as an opportunity to rethink the layout of the space and look into a way to make it more functional, and to also better represent the women and their stories. The organization contacted DFA to redesign the space. Our team helped plan out the storefront redesign, taking into account the Welcome Project’s need for a multi-use space. We ideated, developed, and ultimately built several storage solutions, and were able to help launch the space a day after we presented at our end-of-semester Project Expo. Throughout our process, we developed a close collaborative relationship with Sheryl Ranganathan, Heartfelt Tidbits Founder & Director. We visited the space frequently and got to know the users of the future space. It was a remarkable experience working with the Welcome Project.
